DOHA, Qatar — As TenniShorts had been hacked and there was no ability to report from Thursday here’s a brief synopsis regarding Valentine’s Day from the players.
Victoria Azarenka acted like we all don’t know about her relationship with techno pop star Red Foo, but the video he put on You Tube tells the tale. Not one, not two, not three, but four images of Red Foo made it obvious who is his Valentine.
On Friday, Azarenka commented about the video: “I think it was it was definitely special, that’s for sure. It’s something unexpected, you know. It can never get boring. That’s for sure. But it was amazing to see something so different and so creative, for sure.”
Caroline Wozniacki revealed that Rory McIllroy sent flowers and she had another gift from her golfer love that she was keeping private. Caro said she sent Rory a basket of chocolates.
Serena Williams went to her Jehovah Witness roots and said she doesn’t celebrate holidays. However, take note that coach Patrick Mouratogolou arrived in town and while neither has confirmed their relationship there’s been pictures that are worth 1000 words.
The funniest exchange in the press conference took place between Maria Sharapova and French journalist Matthieu Barbarin. Sharapova is rumored to be dating fellow player Grigor Dmitrov, but neither one is talking. Here’s the exhange:
Q. It is Valentine’s Day. Did you have the occasion of celebrating with the one you love?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Well, I’m in Doha, so, I mean, my team consists of my coach and my trainer and hitter and my physio. I don’t have a love relationship with either one of them, so… (Laughter.)
Q. You didn’t receive a message or something?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: I received many. I’m very lucky.
Q. You have many lovers?
MARIA SHARAPOVA: Maybe. Why not, right? Life’s too short. (Let’s just say that Maria offered this response with laughter).
