You have to love Ernie Gulbis. Even though he is speaking in his second – or, possibly, third – language, he can still crack a gag and take a gag. He had just beaten Jurgen Zopp in three tight sets to reach the second round of Wimbledon when he was asked if he agreed with John McEnroe that tennis would be better without umpires.

Ernie answered what he thought was the question only to realise, late in the day, that something had got lost in translation. Yes, tennis would be better without vampires but, no, tennis would not be better without umpires. But it took a while to get to that understanding….. listen in and see what we mean…..
