Laura Robson is a frightfully polite young lady but she has fierce friends. One of those pals is Maria Sharapova – they are both managed by the mighty Max Eisenbud – and Shazza had a few words of advice for Robbo: give as good as you get especially when you are dealing with John McEnroe.

Robbo, Britain’s former No.1, is crook at the moment, sidelined with a serious left wrist injury (and as a leftie, that is really not good). At Wimbledon this year, she is working for the BBC (anything to get accreditation to the biggest tournament in the world) and, in that role, she was interviewing Shazza at Shazz’s pop-up Sugarpova shop in Wimbledon Village. But girls being girls, they got down to the real goss straight away. And Novak Djokovic took a bit of a pasting in the ensuing chat. Oh, and both ladies revealed a worrying liking for the Spice Girls. Oh, well, fame and fortune does not necessarily buy you taste in music…
