ATP doubles player Martin Emmrich arrived on court at the Topshelf Open on Monday, got down on one knee and proposed to girlfriend Michaella Krajicek.

“It was a huge surprise,” Krajicek said. “I mean, we spoke about marriage a couple of times before, but I didn’t expect it now. It’s very special. I’m really happy and I feel so lucky that he did it like this. We met here one year ago and I think it’s such a very special place to do it.

“The first 10 or 15 seconds when he came on the court I thought, ‘Okay, it’s nice to see him, but this is strange.’ But then I saw he had tears in his eyes, and I was like, ‘Oh wow,’ and I realized what was going to happen! I was so focused on him the whole time I didn’t hear anything he was saying!

“I just knew I was for sure going to say yes. That was all I knew in that moment.”
