Those lovely people at Wimbledon.com know how to put together a decent video preview. But what they omit to mention in this little filmette is that they really should have sorted out the scheduling on Saturday when the rain was predicted to hose down over SW19. And when, indeed, it did hose down over the grass courts, Andrew Jarrett, the Wimbers referee, got caught with his predominantly white kickers in a horrible twist.
On Manic Monday, that fabulous day when all the men’s and women’s fourth round matches should be played, the blokes’ bit of the draw will only feature the top half. That leaves the lads in the bottom half having to play catch-up. And for Stan Wawrinka, Denis Istomin, Feli Lopez and John Isner, that means, potentially, playing a best-of-five set match on Monday to reach the fourth round, a best-of-five set match on Tuesday to reach the the quarterfinal and a best-of-five set match on Wednesday if they get to the quarterfinals. That’s a bugger of a schedule whichever way you look at it.
Anyway, Wimbledon are previewing Manic Monday thus:
